What to Expect During Your Homebuyer Orientation

Now for the fun part! It’s time for your Homebuyer Orientation (commonly referred to in the industry as “HBO”). Once your home has been finished, your builder will organize a walkthrough in which they show you the features of your home, go over the builder’s warranty, and answer any final questions you may have.

IT’S TIME TO GET ACQUAINTED WITH YOUR NEW HOME.

Undoubtedly one of the most exciting steps in the new home construction process is getting to see and getting familiar with the final product.

  • Who? Invitations to the Homebuyer Orientation (HBO) are usually extended to you and your family, and your real estate agent (if applicable). On the builder side, it’s usually the superintendent and the builder’s agent who will conduct the orientation.
  • When? The orientation usually takes place a few days before or on your loan closing date.
  • What? A detailed look at the features of your home, an explanation of your homebuilder’s warranty program, and a chance to indicate to your builder anything that needs fixing prior to move-in.

*The process differs from builder to builder. Check with yours to discuss their Homebuyer Orientation (HBO) process.
